THANKSGIVING FUN FACTS

Did you know that (according to the Guinness Book of World Records) the largest pumpkin pie ever baked weighed 2,020 pounds and measured just over 12 feet long. It was baked on October 8, 2005 by the New Bremen Giant Pumpkin Growers in Ohio, and included 900 pounds of pumpkin, 62 gallons of evaporated milk, 155 dozen eggs, 300 pounds of sugar, 3.5 pounds of salt, 7 pounds of cinnamon, 2 pounds of pumpkin spice and 250 pounds of crust. YUMMY!

Author Interview: Frances Hardinge

One of this dragon's favorite books this year is The Lost Conspiracy by Frances Hardinge (she also wrote Fly By Night and Well Witched). Two young sisters who live on a beautiful island soon become caught in a deadly web of deceit. Neither girl is exactly what she pretends to be, and when they are drawn into a sinister conspiracy, one discovers that the only thing more dangerous than the secret she hides is the truth she must uncover. Check out this interview with the author from School Library Journal...then check out the book (for ages 9 and up)!

It's Friday the 13th!

Yikes! I just realized that today is Friday the 13th! What does that mean? Read this article from kidsnewsroom.com about the origins and superstitions surrounding this supposedly unlucky day!

READ IT BEFORE YOU SEE IT: Fantastic Mr. Fox

Are you a fan of Roald Dahl? He wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, The BFG, James and the Giant Peach, The Witches…all of these have been movies.  Anyway, Fantastic Mr. Fox is coming to theaters Nov. 25! Visit http://www.fantasticmrfoxmovie.com/ to meet the characters...and visit the library to check out the book! What's it about? Three farmers, each one meaner than the other, try all-out warfare to get rid of the fox and his family...with hilarious results. Read it before you see it!
